 WILL ROGERS SIGNED PHOTO
TO RAOUL WALSH

WILL ROGERS-1879-1935 - Very famous actor & humorist. Awarded two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame...One for radio, the other for motion pictures. His personal quotes have lived on to this day..."It's a good thing we don't get all the government we pay for", (that may have changed since Roger's time!) "Everything is funny as long as  it's happening to someone else". "There's two theories to arguing with a woman. Neither one works", "Make crime pay. Become a lawyer", and so many others! Rogers tragically died in an Arctic plan crash.  The plane was  piloted by the world-renowned, one-eyed pioneer aviator Wiley Post, who also was killed in that crash.

RAOUL (ROUL) WALSH- 1887-1980- Hollywood Director & Legend!! Introduced John Wayne in 1930 in the Big Trail. Was one of the founding members of the Academy of Motion Pictures & Sciences. He directed films for over 50 years. During the filming of his movie Old Arizona in 1928, he lost an eye when a rabbit came through the windshield of his car and hit him in the eye.

This is a fantastic 8 x10 vintage sepia photo of Will Rogers that he inscribed & signed to Raoul Walsh.  He actually misspelled Raoul's first name and wrote "To my good friend Roul Walsh. Will Rogers". The inscription is in dark black ink. The photo is in superb condition with just a couple of minor flaws....In the bottom left hand corner there is some discoloration. I don't know if something spilled on the photo long ago, or if there was a problem with the processing of the photo at the time it was printed. There is also a very teeny tiny tear in the left hand white margin about two inches from the bottom. The tear is about 1/16 th of an inch. There are also some production "dots" that appear at the top of the photo.  Otherwise it is in excellent condition.  It is so rare to find a photo such as this, from one legend to another!      PROVENANCE: We obtained this photo personally from Mary Walsh, Raoul's widow,  a few years after his death. Our family spent several wonderful afternoon's at the Walsh home in Simi Valley. Our kids were young at the time and Mary would take them out to pick fruit and wonder around the property.  It was during one of these visits that we obtained many wonderful autographs, photos, posters and memorabilia that had been Raoul's. $950
